The Brainstem - the area of the brain which determines whether you’re alive or dead.
The brain stem controls a lot of your automatic, involuntary body processes, the ones that keep you alive.
Breathing
Blood pressure
Heartrate
Internal body temperature
Digestion
Sleep cycle
Alertness
Swallowing
Without a properly functioning brainstem, you’re dead. The brainstem controls all of the automatic things your body does without you having to think about, or even be able to control it. Like you don’t tell your heart to beat 60-90times/minute, it just does it. However, we can to an extent begin to learn to control some brainstem functions, like controlling your heart rate. The pons medulla part of the brainstem (not really scientifically a brainstem part, but for ease's sake we’re throwing it in here) plays a part in gait and posture, too, so if you have an asymmetrical gait, or poor posture, we need to stimulate the brainstem.
How do we brain train the Brainstem?
In our brain training, we don’t really train the brainstem, but more the pons medulla - this duo of brain parts also helps your cerebellum communicate with the rest of your brain. We stimulate the pons medulla with posture cues, single-sided exercises, and more to help balance you out and keep your automatic body controls in a less stressed state.
