Case study: Session singer
This session singer, depending on her voice for her career, was recently realizing she didn’t have the control, tone or stamina that she needed.
RESTAGE’s Liz Arlene worked with her and her vocal coach to find a baseline for her voice that day.
Want to know the keys to stabilizing her tone and making her singing more effortless?
HER SHOES!
Her neck!
Her jaw.
Turns out, she had been in a car accident a few months beforehand. We noticed a pretty significant sway that corresponded with notes that were off and brassy. She was wearing some high heels that were throwing her body forward. True dang story, we had her take her shoes off and sing flat footed with her feet apart a bit for better balance, and her voice instantly cleared up with less effort.
We also evaluated neck stability and some specific vision nerves that also were negatively affecting her tone and effort. We did some manual techniques and with each technique, her vocal coach ran through a scale that she knew well. Using that scale as a baseline, we could test which techniques made things better and which were either useless or worsened. Once we knew which techniques were keepers, we gave her a rehab programming to RESTAGE her singing.
